Text Box: From the Commander
Text Box: The concept of leading others is a challenging concept. It requires many traits like discipline, initiative, decisiveness, thinking on the go, executing a plan, working with peers, subordinates and superiors just to mention a few. Here in the Georgia Wing NCO Leadership Academy we work on all these traits and more.

We start with a basic definition of leadership and begin to build it up. “Leadership is the Art of Influencing One or more Individuals to Accomplish a Common Goal”, as defined by your commander. We don’t talk about CAP, uniforms, rank, mission, or any other structure of the military. We simply break down the human attributes of understanding the nature of your fellow person. And How To Motivate and Bring People together.

You have spent the last week dissecting this concept called leadership. You have done this in the classroom, on the Leadership Land Navigation Exercise, in the Water Leadership Drills, at the Podium Speaking, working through case studies, at the Leadership Reaction Course and on the internet conducting research. You have learned that listening is more important many times than speaking.

This Academy is, with but one intent; to make you a better person with the capability to interact in a fast paced world. You have many challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of you on your path through the world. Our Academy wants you to be the very best along the way. I am positive that this course has set you apart from your peers. Good Luck in all of your future leadership opportunities and think back to this moment in during the hard times when you have a question about how to lead others.

I personally hope that each and every cadet enjoyed their once in lifetime experience at Fort Gordon. And I know that everyone here will pass on your War Stories to the many other cadets that will follow you. So please take your story of Fort Gordon 09 and pass it on. I look forward to seeing you next time!
